June 29, 2026 | Texas A&M University | Zachry Engineering Education Complex
Spark! PK-12 Engineering Education Outreach at Texas A&M Engineering is convening leaders from across Texas for a full-day, InventEd Regional Summit focused on strengthening invention education statewide.
This working summit will bring together:
- K–12 STEM thought leaders
- Texas A&M faculty
- Out-of-school time program leaders
- Industry and community partners
Participants will explore:
- Invention education in Texas today
- What is working well across regions and communities
- Gaps or barriers to access
- What we want invention education in Texas to become
Together, we will build a stronger, more connected ecosystem that expands access to creative problem-solving and invention experiences for students across Texas.
What is Invention Education?
Invention education is an interdisciplinary, real-world approach to learning that empowers students to identify problems, develop original ideas, and create solutions that address authentic needs in their schools, homes, and communities. Rooted in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, entrepreneurship, and creativity, invention education engages students in the process of asking questions, empathizing with users, designing prototypes, testing ideas, and communicating solutions.
Unlike traditional project-based learning, invention education emphasizes student agency, innovation, and problem-solving with purpose. Students are encouraged to think like inventors — observing challenges, exploring possibilities, iterating on ideas, and learning through both success and failure.
At its core, invention education helps young people develop essential future-ready skills such as creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, resilience, communication, and entrepreneurial thinking. It also provides meaningful opportunities for students to connect classroom learning to real-world challenges while building confidence in their ability to make a positive impact.
Why Does It Matter?
Today’s students are preparing for a rapidly evolving world where complex problems require innovative solutions. Invention education helps bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world application by empowering students to become creators — not just consumers — of knowledge and technology.
When students engage in invention education, they learn that their ideas have value, their voices matter, and they have the capacity to solve meaningful problems. Whether inventing a product, improving a process, or designing a community solution, students gain experiences that strengthen persistence, adaptability, and confidence — skills that are increasingly important for college, careers, and civic engagement.
Together, we will build a stronger ecosystem that expands access to creative problem-solving and invention experiences for students across Texas.
